Fighting Fit: Martial arts highlights at FIBO

From traditional martial arts to self-defence for the whole family: FIBO’s Fighting Fit area delivers the pure joy of combat sports. From 12 to 15 April, fitness trainers, operators of martial arts schools and fitness studios, and interested private visitors are invited to attend join-in events, workshops and trial courses to learn about the latest trends and witness exciting live competitions. Newly added to FIBO in 2018, the Fighting Fit area will be located in Hall 4.1 of the Exhibition Centre in Cologne.

Power seeks Women

Having a self-confident presence and being certain that you can effectively defend yourself in an emergency: with this promise, the programme “Power sucht Frau” (“Power seeks Women”), designed by Alexandros Kamanis, the Master of Martial Arts, will reach out to girls and women at FIBO. It’s also the right place for trainers interested in teaching self-defence. The programme is an initiative of the World Kickboxing and Karate Union (WKU) in collaboration with kung fu world championship runner-up Macela M. Kamanis. Interested visitors will be able to participate in Hall 4.1 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on FIBO Thursday and Friday.

WKU FIBO KWON Cup

Point fighting, kick light, light contact and forms: once again in 2018, the WKU FIBO KWON Cup will be one of the essential highlights of the supporting programme. The competition in the categories dubbed Pointfighting, Kick-Light, Lightcontact and Schlagmesser will take place from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, 14 April. The Schlagmesser Contest and Forms competition are scheduled for 15 April this year. Athletes from all associations and nations are eligible to compete. The participation fee already includes a one-day ticket to FIBO. The competition is organised for the third time by Sportschule Alex, the most successful martial arts school in the World Kickboxing and Karate Union.

Top-level grappling competitions

Germany’s best grapplers will also do battle on FIBO weekend, putting on an action-packed competition. In the tenth individual championships of the German Grappling League (DGL) on Saturday, 14 April, the men will step up to the mat in seven and the women in two weight classes. “No one should miss out on that feeling you get fighting in front of a big crowd”, says Daniel Ackermann from the German Grappling League’s project team. “Just stop by, join in and have a ton of fun.” Registration for the championship is still open through 9 April.

Stars at the stand

FIBO is also a must-attend event for the stars of the fitness community. Numerous celebrities will be hanging out at the stands of exhibitors. Kickboxing fans will get their money’s worth here, too, including at the WKU World exhibition stand in Hall 4.1, Stand A66. That’s where they’ll meet the multiple WKU kickboxing world champion Marie Lang.
