“The best Golf Show on the planet”
With golf’s popularity continuing to soar, the 2024 PGA Show signalled a big year ahead for the $102 billion industry. Over 31,000 golf professionals descended on Orlando Florida in January to meet with 1,000+ golf companies - including 350 exhibitors new to the show. Star sightings included golf champions Matt Fitzpatrick, Annika Sörenstam, JR Smith, and Brian Harman, to name a few!
At the PGA of America Hub members could centrally access Association and partner benefits and programming. The Equipment Test Center featured 44 testing bays and a 3,750 square-foot putting green. There was a centralized New Product Zone for one-stop shopping of the newest golf merchandise, and an Inventors Spotlight pavilion for patented products not yet available to buy. Plus the Career Zone; Golf Fitness, Wellness & Instruction area; PGA Fashion Show; and five stages of activity and expert sessions across a wide range of professional development topics, which were busy throughout the week.
“The 2024 PGA Show overflowed with more exhibitors, more floor space, more attendees and an amazing energy,” said PGA Golf Exhibitions Vice President, Marc Simon. “We are especially thrilled with the positive response to the inaugural PGA Show Winter Jam featuring country music sensation Jake Owen, and many other new experiential events that gave our attendees and exhibitors a chance to connect in fresh and exciting ways.”
“The show was a blast – maybe the best one in 10 years” enthused exhibitor, Golf Swing Shirt. For attendee Marie Gateley, PGA, Assistant Golf Professional, Baton Rouge Country Club, it was “a great chance to catch up with other golf professionals I haven’t seen in a few years and come away with some great new products for our golf shop, too.” Golf equipment supplier Caliber Golf, summed up PGA Golf Show as simply “the best golf show on the planet,” adding “we’ll be back!”
Innovation meets investment at MIPIM 2024
MIPIM, the global urban festival, brings investors, civic leaders, and real estate professionals together in Cannes in March for four days of game-changing insights, innovation, and collaboration, focused on the built environment. The 2024 edition, officially opened by former Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin, attracted over 20,000 delegates from 90 countries, including investors managing over €4 trillion of assets.
It was the most sustainable and inclusive edition to date. MIPIM has signed up to the “Road to Zero Alliance” of high-profile businesses, to take faster, more effective action on reducing carbon emissions. Urgency on climate action and green transition was at the top of all discussions. And 43% of all panellists were women, thanks to MIPIM’s new inclusion and diversity policies.
“It was fantastic to see so many delegates back in Cannes with the shared aim, to accelerate change towards a more diverse, sustainable, user-centric & profitable real estate” said Nicolas Kozubek, MIPIM Director. Among them, first time exhibitor CCR Energy said, “we are overwhelmed with the amount of contacts we made at our first MIPIM.”
New for 2024 was ‘Housing Matters!', a half-day summit in partnership with Co-Liv, where France, Germany, and the UK ̶ the three largest markets at MIPIM ̶ shared their perspectives on critical housing issues such as affordability and sustainability. MIPIM Challengers, another trail-blazing initiative, invited young professionals under 30 years old from across the world to make the case at MIPIM for new solutions to the biggest challenges facing the real estate industry. Over 150 entries were submitted, and 15 Challengers were invited to pitch their ideas at the event.
Confidence and energy abound at The London Book Fair
With a stellar line-up of author keynotes, sold-out conference sessions, and a strong international presence (including Hollywood producers in search of their next Oscar-contending adaptations), The London Book Fair 2024 was hailed as “positive, buzzy, busy - even at times heaving”' by event director Gareth Rapley.
Dominique Raccah, CEO and publisher of Sourcebooks called the fair "probably the busiest show I've seen since Covid” adding “there's a ton of expansion opportunities for us….International is vibrant. It's cooking."
New show features included ‘Audio Alley’ to support a huge growth area in audio-book publishing; the ‘International Markets Theatre’ offering insights on how to do business in different countries; and a new ‘Author’s Lounge’ and ‘Book Club Bar’ providing new networking opportunities. Among the most popular seminars were sessions on platforming marginalised voices, sustainability, tips for writers, social media, and new global trends.
During the event Elsevier Chairman YoungSuk (YS) Chi was honoured with the LBF Lifetime Achievement award for his contributions to the publishing industry and his unwavering dedication to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation. And with an eye to the future, the Trailblazers Awards 2024 recognised some of the publishing world’s most exciting literary talent.
"The rights center is jam-packed, our tables are packed” agreed Brian Murray, CEO of HarperCollins US. “Even on Day Two, there's no seats at our stand. There's a lot of business being done."
Joining the main-stage line-up at Olympia (12-14 March) were bestselling author and TikTok sensation Dr Julie Smith; entrepreneur, author and host of the UK’s no.1 podcast ‘The Diary of a CEO’ Steven Bartlett; actor and philanthropist Michael Sheen; and President and Chief Executive Officer at Simon & Schuster, Jonathan Karp, whose opening keynote explored the evolving world of content. Authors Taylor Jenkins Reid and Richard Osman were International and Adult Author of the Day respectively, Waterstone’s Children Laureate Joseph Coelho was Children’s Author of the Day, and Flavia Z. Drago was Illustrator of the Fair.
Citing the resurgence in international attendance (key countries such as the US and China were up 100% on 2023), and an overwhelming positive response to the show’s programming, Gareth Rapley said that renewals for next year’s fair, which takes place 11-13 March, are already strong. “I think this whole week has demonstrated once again that London Book Fair is the essential spring fair for the industry.”
