Events

PHOENIX, AZ – Pushing impressive attendance figures, the ITS America Conference & Expo officially concluded, hosting nearly 3,000 ITS professionals in Phoenix, AZ.

Decision-makers and their supporting teams in both public and private sector transportation agencies from 22 countries, regions, and territories, 48 states, and the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico gathered to learn about the implementation of new technologies and solutions that will enable a safer, greener, and smarter transportation system.

“As the nation’s leading intelligent transportation systems event, this year’s turnout speaks volumes about the innovations occurring daily in our growing sector,” said Laura Chace, President and CEO of ITS America. “The excitement surrounding this year’s theme of Accelerating Digital Transformation was palpable as attendees discussed and experienced the latest and greatest advances in connectivity, automation, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.”

Phoenix was selected for its cutting-edge innovations in transportation, including autonomous vehicle fleets, heat-absorbing Cool Pavement, and an ambitious program to advance and expand regional transit by 2050, Phoenix was an ideal host for this year’s event.

“For Phoenix residents, delivering smarter, more sustainable transportation solutions is about more than staying on the cutting-edge of innovation. It’s imperative to putting the city on a path to reduce GHG emissions by a minimum of 50 percent by 2030 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As the nation’s largest desert city, we have identified a variety of policies, plans, and initiatives that are in alignment with our goal of building the most sustainable desert city on the planet. This goal is crucial to ensuring we can continue to live and work in the city we all love,” said Phoenix, AZ Mayor Kate Gallego. “It’s been an honor to attend ITS America Conference & Expo and share how my administration is working with leading thinkers in transportation to tackle this issue.”

Event highlights include:

  • 100+ educational sessions focused on how leaders are implementing and deploying new technology to make our world safer, greener, and smarter for all.
  • 170+ exhibitors and sponsors who developed new partnerships and showcased innovative solutions. • Live demonstrations with a focus on autonomous vehicles, cyclist safety, and safety alert messaging using mobile & CV technology.

The new ITS Innovation Showcase featured groundbreaking innovations and solutions that define the future of transportation. Attendees had the opportunity to cast their votes on what technology drives increased safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The winner, Drivewyze, showcased their Smart Roadways technology, which state transportation agencies can use to alert commercial trucks directly in-cab to upcoming hazards on the roadway, and assess changes in driver behavior to improve their safety programs.

The US Department of Transportation booth highlighted their Vehicle-to-Everything Communications program, which is designed to improve energy efficiency, decrease delays, and maintain safety. Key developments included their research on the use of adaptive traffic signal to help automated vehicles navigate intersections.

“The success of ITS America Conference & Expo 2024 is not only measured by the number of people who attended, but the quality of the programming, the number of connections made, and networking that happened,” said Jaime McAuley, ITS America Events event director at RX. “We look forward to capitalizing on the achievements of this year as we continue to plan for the ITS World Congress 2025.”

As this year’s ITS America Conference & Expo concludes, efforts now shift to upcoming ITS World Congress 2025 slated to convene in Atlanta, Georgia at the premier Georgia World Congress Center, August 24-28, 2025.
