REED EXHIBITIONS ANNOUNCES NEW GENERAL COUNSEL

London, 29 June 2020.  Today, Reed Exhibition announces that Alexandra Smyth has been named General Counsel, effective 1st July 2020 and will join the RX Global Executive Leadership Team on that date.  She replaces Julie Goldweitz, who after 27 years with RELX and RX Global, retires on June 30th.   

Alexandra has been tasked with uniting and overseeing the global legal function across the company.  She will report to Henry Udow, Chief Legal Officer, RELX PLC and Hugh Jones, CEO of RX Global. 

Joining Alexandra, Allison Young is appointed Deputy General Counsel, RX Global and General Counsel, RX Global Americas, reporting to Alexandra.  In this role, Allison will support Alexandra in overseeing global legal operations and serve as chief legal counsel for the RX Global Americas region moving from her role as Associate General Counsel, RELX and RX Global US.

Commenting on the appointment, Hugh Jones said: “I’m delighted that Alexandra is joining our team here at RX Global, and that Allison is continuing her career with us in an enhanced role.  In the midst of a global crisis, it is now more vital than ever that we have a consistent and holistic approach to all our legal questions and concerns, and Alexandra’s experience and deep understanding in many legal areas will be crucial as we navigate the ‘new normal’ and  continue to develop our business globally."

About Alexandra Smyth

Alexandra has been with RELX since 2012, when she became the General Counsel, Corporate and M&A, working alongside the corporate finance team and overseeing the legal aspects of all acquisitions and disposals across RELX globally.   This role also expanded to include providing support on RELX corporate structure transactions (such as the corporate simplification involving the merger of the two listed parent companies in 2018) and supporting the RELX treasury function on European and US debt issuances.

Alexandra is well versed in a wide variety of legal issues that can arise across multiple jurisdictions, and is admitted to practice in Australia and England and Wales, and certified by the Board of Examiners in New York.

She is Australian, and currently lives in London, but was born in Greece and throughout her life has also lived in Athens, Chicago, Melbourne and Sydney.  Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Finance and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. She was named as one of the “35 Women Under 35” in Britain by Management Today in 2015.
