Building business in Australia
Our Australian colleagues had an absolutely incredible year in 2023! They shattered event records, garnered prestigious awards, secured leadership scholarships, introduced innovative digital event tools, and marked significant milestones – all with one goal: to build more business for our valued customers. Allow us to share some of the remarkable highlights with you.
All-time visitor highs
As customers continue to rediscover the power and magic of face to face events for connecting, learning and business generation, our RX events are not just exceeding pre-pandemic visitor levels, they are setting all-time attendance highs!
Online Retailer in Melbourne has been connecting the ecommerce industry with the latest solution providers, technologies, and strategic insights for over 15 years and 2023 was the largest in its history. Ecommerce, marketing, and retail professionals came to check out the latest tech, network and do business on the show floor. The conference delivered over 80 hours of free educational content including expert insights, case studies and panels of leading local and international retailers. The event culminated in the ORIAS, the preeminent awards event for online retailers, celebrating the best of the best.
Accelerating Australia’s clean energy revolution, All-Energy Australia 2023 secured its reputation as Australia’s largest clean energy event, tripling the expo floor size and increasing attendance by a third on last year’s previous record. “We’ve never ever had an event here in Australia for the clean energy industry as big as this,” commented Kate Thornton, CEO of the Clean Energy Council, our event partner. The accompanying conference filled nine streams and featured over 300 speakers, with a special focus on electric vehicles, green hydrogen, the circular economy, First Nations energy advancements, and Oceania Energy transition. The team are already powering up for 2024 – don’t miss it!
Cheers to 10 years of PAX Aus!
Not many expos have their own dedicated theme tune! Inspired by 10 years of PAX Aus, one member of our passionate community created a song especially for the occasion. ‘The Lyrical’s’ ‘Cheers to 10 Years’ became the theme for our anniversary event which drew a record crowd of over 80,000 gamers to Melbourne in October 2023.
The celebrations generated over 200 million digital impressions throughout the campaign and trended #1 on X (formerly Twitter) in Australia. Among the show floor’s biggest draws, Nintendo and Sega offered excited fans the chance to get their hands on playable demos of Super Mario Wander and Sonic Superstars, ahead of their release.
Over 200 live panels embraced all aspects of gaming and gaming culture. PAX Rising provide a platform for the best of the indie development scene and PAX ARENA pitted the world’s most competitive gamers against each other for fame, glory – and cash! “It was a phenomenal experience,” said one incredibly happy attendee; or in the words of our anniversary song: “we came for the games we played, but the magic made us stay.” Roll on PAX 2024!
Stand out talent
Every year the Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) announces scholarships for its Leading Well Program for Emerging Leaders – and RX Australia was delighted, though not surprised, when our Operations Manager Lily Nutting and Strategic Account Manager Jayde Taylor were invited to join their 2023 intake!
Since joining us in 2017, Lily has fast-tracked her way through the company to lead our brilliant operations team who are responsible to helping customers on their journey with us, planning our event schedules, supporting our journey to net zero events, and working closely with our suppliers and venues to ensure the execution of our events meet the high standards we set.
Jayde oversees our strategic customer accounts on Life InStyle, the premier buying event for boutique brands. Named RX’s Sales Person of the Year in 2023, Jayde is always looking to learn, and to stretch her abilities. She recently accepted the challenge of a new industry, driving new business on our fast growing Waste Expo whilst also continuing to work on Life In style.
Leading Well will guide and prepare Lily and Jayde for the next phase of their careers with a focus not on management per se, but the skills and knowledge that will help her to develop as a leader.
Reflecting on her role, and her award Lily said: “I’m thrilled to be part of the Leading Well program. I thrive off the energy and the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of the events industry. Although our team is small, it is also mighty! We relish the positive feedback, and the constructive dialogue we have with our contractors, suppliers, venues, and exhibitors – especially when they tell us that when RX operations are in charge their job is much easier!”
Digitally enhanced connections
Digital technology is transforming the way our customers connect and do business in Australia. In 2023, we launched Colleqt, an exciting new RX digital app which, by scanning QR codes, enables attendees to collect supplier and product information from exhibitor booths and feature areas, quickly and sustainably, in exchange for their contact details. Colleqt adds to a growing arsenal of customer-focused RX digital tools including our mobile lead capturing app which enables exhibitors to collect and qualify the leads on their stands by scanning visitor badges; and Exhibitor Dashboard which, by consolidating all their leads and event data in one place and in real time, helps our exhibitors to analyse their results, justify their investment, and improve their performance.
Our creative team were also the deserving winners of an RX APAC Innovation award for their new multi-media solution to event directories offering enhanced, year-round exposure for our exhibitors and their products, and easy usage for visitors, whilst also supporting sustainability. Take a look at our latest fabulous ‘Look Book’ for Life Instyle, with over 230 pages of digital content!
Award-winning content
RX is a leading provider of primary healthcare education for GPs in Australia, through our series of content-led GPCE (General Practice Conference and Exhibition) events in Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne; and via ThinkGP, Australia’s largest provider of free, online, accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses.
Not content with just delivering the highest GPCE attendance results in a decade in 2023, our ThinkGP team were thrilled to win the ‘Excellence in Education’ award at the Australian life sciences industry’s 2023 PRIME Awards, in collaboration with the completely amazing Liver Foundation.
To date, over 6,000 GPs have actively participated in our online CPD courses focused on liver disease and their feedback consistently emphasizes the transformative nature of these courses, often described as 'lightbulb' moments. Commenting on the content delivered by ThinkGP and the Liver Foundation, the PRIME Award judges said: “This is an outstanding project with clear results that exceeded targets, set up to help upskill and educate GPs in an area of medicine that is predicted to become the main reason for adult liver transplantation and liver cancer in Australia in the next five years.”
“GP education is our lifeblood and the real difference that it makes to Australian people – in this case, those who have liver disease – is why we do it,” added Mike Simmonds, Director of our Medical Portfolio.
Sustainable, life-changing events
RX is on a journey to net zero event emissions by 2040. We are committed to supporting the industries and communities we serve in driving sustainable growth – and we’re helping to save lives along the way.
Higher temperatures caused by climate change have become an increasing risk factor for skin cancer in Australia. While brain-storming a suitable gift for the All-Energy Australia visitor bag, Marketing Manager Holly Tankard came up with the idea of a skin cancer check as something that would offer meaningful, year-round value for our attendees. Funded by All-Energy Australia and supported by Solar Cutters, the free Skin Smart skin cancer checks were offered for the first time in 2023.
Every session was booked out with 224 checks completed by Skin Smart Australia and their qualified dermatologists at the event. Of those, 56% of the participants had never had a skin check; 69% were found to be at high risk of developing skin cancer; and 17% were recommended to seek further investigation. 57 abnormal lesions were found and six showed sign of melanoma.
“Regular skin cancer checks are very important to have but especially for those working predominantly outside,” commented Holly. “It was surprising that even among our All-Energy audience, over half had never had a skin check. By delivering the scheme at the event and promoting it across our social media accounts (“I got my skin checked at #AllEnergyAU”) we are pleased to have raised awareness of this increasing health threat. Together with our Solar Cutters and Smart Skin Australia, we are committed to continuing this important initiative at our 2024 event and beyond.”
Last word to Sam Craft, Vice President of The Smart Energy Council, who said: “I loved this initiative, it gave me peace of mind and helped me understand what to watch out for! Great work guys.”
