In a scenario of climate emergencies, FEBRAVA shows a sustainable future for the cooling and heating chain

The biggest event in Latin America's HVAC-R sector introduced solutions and technologies based on energy efficiency and connectivity

São Paulo, September 2023 – Day to day, cooling and heating are a part of people's lives, at home, on public transport, at the supermarket, and at stores, but high temperatures mean that people are literally sensing how important these resources are. A spike in consumer demand leads, however, to questions about impacts on the planet. It was precisely this theme that traversed every exhibitor at FEBRAVA, the HVAC-R industry's biggest event, which ended last Friday (Sept. 15).

The 22nd edition gathered over 25,000 professionals over an area of 50,000 sqm at the São Paulo Expo center. The event was a major showcase of innovation, with a range of launches focused on energy efficiency and technologies for easy operational control and monitoring in residential, commercial, and industrial solutions.

“Our attendees were very engaged and eager to learn about the latest things after the show's four-year hiatus. Enthusiasm could also be seen in exhibitors with sustainable solutions that allow for greater connectivity through digital tools and wi-fi connections,” says Ivan Romão, FEBRAVA's manager.

The show is strategic for the national market, gathering 320,000 professionals and with an expected BRL 40 billion (USD 5 billion) in transactions this year, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Cooling, Air Conditioning, Ventilation, and Heating (ABRAVA).

Exhibitors

Exhibitor numbers were also higher than at other editions. Over 500 brands attended. See what they had to say below:

Antônio Gobbi, a managing partner at Full Gauge Controls, said that “this is the 16th time we've taken part and it is for sure the best time. Visitor numbers at the booth were surprising, above expected. We had many new products, including ones with the Outstanding Innovation Seal.”

Midea Carrier showed its entire industrial and residential line, with new products that now use R 32 coolant, which doesn't harm the ozone, as well as a chiller using R513 fluid. “After four years, we are very happy to come back to Febrava to strengthen relations with our business partners and installers. With its importance and credibility, the show provides the perfect backdrop for launching our entire R-32 residential air conditioning line, along with the Xtreme Save Black Edition, merging design and technology to lend sophistication to any area,” says Simone Camargo, marketing director for Midea Carrier in Brazil.

The organization of the exclusive area made a difference for Tecumseh. “The way we assembled our space, with customer applications and the correlation with our new developments, made it possible to recognize that we are offering the solutions they need. It's innovation that comes from the outside in," explained Fernando Fischer, the company's sales and marketing director.

Brands like Armacell, Indústrias Tosi, Parker, Elgin, Danfoss, Fujitsu General do Brasil, TCL SEMP, Gree, and Copeland also made their mark on the event. Check out a full list of testimonials here.

Other, such as Difustherm, Sanhua, Sondar, Leveros, Multi-wing, Pizzani Lubrificantes, Ecolab, General Water, SH Refrigeração, Refrin and Halton Refrin, Parker, Galileo TP, Clima Rio, Riquena Neto Ar Condicionado, AÇOSPONTOCOM, Rocktec Isolantes Térmicos, C.D. Aiello Indústria e Comércio de Equipamentos e Componentes Elétricos LTDA, LEAS Industrial, Filtros Planeta Água, and dozens more also introduced solutions and products to the public.

Thematic areas (Technical Islands)

There were a total of six. Two were making their debut: the Water Treatment, which included participation from certification bodies; and the Installer, with technical talks.

In talking about the Water Treatment Area, coordinator Charles Domingues, the president of the National Water Treatment Committee (CNTA - ABRAVA), said that "the water treatment program as a whole was a supporting actor. Over time, with equipment, performance and, currently, energy efficiency, we've come to the conclusion that we should open the way to talk about water in the process, and the thematic area made the water treater the star of the show," explained Charles Domingues.

Discussing the Installer Area, Deivi Homem, one of its coordinators, stressed that "it's a victory for Brazil's installers who keep tabs on FEBRAVA. We've had lots of talks by renowned professionals in the sector."

Other thematic spaces included: Cold Chain, Automotive Air Conditioning, SENAI, and FATEC Professional Training. See full testimonials here.

Congresses and meetings

Co-located events organized by ABRAVA also reinforced connections and continuing professional education, with 170 hours of content in presentations on themes impacting HVAC-R.

In this sense, the XVIII Brazilian Congress on Cooling, Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Heating, and Air Treatment (CONBRAVA) held roundtable discussions on subjects like energy efficiency, air quality, coolants, and water treatment.

Arnaldo Basile, an engineer and the CEO of ABRAVA, pointed out that "one of ABRAVA's goals is to bring together specialists, companies, and academia to spread knowledge to area professionals and society. The 22nd edition of FEBRAVA promoted intensive interaction between the industry and public not just with amazing and well-designed booths, but also by renewing Thematic Areas. FEBRAVA's success was apparent in the countless technological innovations, 76 of which were awarded the Innovation Seal by a commission established just to assess them."

He went on to add that "for over a year, we've been working to hold the variety of events that filled this week, packed with activities aimed at the industry. CONBRAVA brilliantly accomplished its mission of leaving its legacy, which will serve as a reference for the industry and civil society, with the theme of 'HVAC-R' toward a healthy and sustainable future." We are leading other major events that generate content, such as the National Meeting of Project Designers and Consultants, National Women's Meeting, Training Day, and many other talks given by our directors, who added even more sparkle to the 22nd edition of FEBRAVA, executed with excellence by RX."

Talks, networking, and new technologies were the basis of the XXIII National Meeting of Project Designers and Consultants, held on September 11 and 12. Training Day, another attraction, held workshops on ESG in the industry and on regulatory standards (NRs).

The IV National Meeting of Women in the HVAC-R Industry was also held during FEBRAVA, with a free talk on entrepreneurship, given by Chieko Aoki, founder and president of the Blue Tree Hotels chain, and Tatyane Luncah, a businesswoman and the CEO of the Brazilian School of Entrepreneurship (EBEM), mediated by Priscila Baioco, president of the ABRAVA Women's Committee. Panels with Marta Livia Suplicy, president of the Higher Women's Council (CONFEM) at FIESP, Karen Cristina Pegorari, who is in charge of development of the Elas na Indústria Program, and Joana Canozzi, Vice President of the Women's Committee and marketing director at ABRAVA, were also part of the program.

FEBRAVA 2023 Outstanding Innovation Seal Show

To highlight the most innovative solutions for different HVAC-R segments, the organizers promoted the FEBRAVA 2023 Outstanding Innovation Seal, with projects chosen by a specialized committee. Altogether, 76 products were recognized, with seals placed on their booths, in addition to being given a panel show in an exclusive area of the exhibition space.

Award-winning products came from these brands: ACQUABIOS, Danfoss, Elgin, Sicflux, Ecoquest, Embraco, Mayekawa Mycon, Suryha, Ziehl - Abegg, Chemours, Conforlab, Deltafrio, Indústrias Tosi, Powermatic, Every Control Solutions, Fujitsu, Mercato, Parker, NEO Estech, Copeland, RAC Brasil, Coel, Full Gauge, Slic, Tecumseh, Texa, Trox, and Ludufix.

Nelson Baptista Award

Held for the first time, the award created to honor a professional who dedicated 45 years of his career to the industry's growth and to making FEBRAVA stronger was given out in three categories.

Elgin received the most votes by the visitors in attendance as the FEBRAVA 2023 Outstanding Exhibitor, considering space organization and product display.

In FEBRAVA 2023 Lead Capture Efficiency, RAC Brasil came out on top in the final numbers from the RX system, geared toward registering a booth's visitors. Cida Contrera, an advertising executive and the owner of Contrera Comunicação, was awarded FEBRAVA 2023 Personality for her work during the entire event cycle.

Business

In addition to dedicated spaces at booths, the show promoted the Connect Club, an exclusive area with VIP service for select buyers. While Business Round Tables, held on September 13 and 14, included 130 meetings between exhibitors and buyers, with 94% of participants expecting to do business within the next six months.

“Over the four days, we noticed that FEBRAVA reinforced its importance to the sector, whether with early launches and product solutions that are still unavailable on the market, or by serving as a showcase for trends. The event grows with each edition and the HVAC-R public meets this with engagement and presence," says Lucas Pimentel, marketing manager at RX.

Support

FEBRAVA 2023 relied on support from the São Paulo State Trade Association of the Cooling, Heating, and Air Treatment Industry (SINDRATAR-SP), South Brazilian Association of Cooling, Air Conditioning, Heating, and Ventilation (ASBRAV), Brazilian Society of Environmental and Indoor Air Quality Control (BRASINDOOR), Federal Board of Chemistry (CFQ/CRQs System), Brazilian Cold Institute (IBF), National Internal Air Quality Plan (PNQAI), Brazilian Society of Contamination Control (SBCC), and the SMACNA Brasil technical-scientific association.
