Since RX joined the Women in Exhibitions Network (WIE) in September 2023, over 140 RX women and allies have signed up to the community, which aims to empower women in the exhibitions industry and help nurture the next generation of female leaders. To celebrate our new partnership, we shine a light on six RX women whose exceptional contributions are building business for our customers and inspiring our own people to excel.

Caroline Goes, Global Product Director, Brazil

During her 15-year career with RX, Caroline Goes has risen up the ranks from marketing co-ordinator for our Brazilian operation to Global Product Director for RX, managing our data product portfolio from ideation to go-to-market.

Caroline is always looking for new and better ways of delivering value for RX customers  ̶  so much so that, earlier this year, she was recognised by our parent company RELX on its  Innovation Honour Roll for her leading role in the development of the RX Exhibitor Dashboard.

Exhibitor Dashboard seamlessly integrates data from our registration, matchmaking, show directory and lead retrieval systems into one clear and simple to use dashboard, so exhibitors can assess their performance in real-time and gain critical insights to improve their ROI and competitive standing year on year.

“Value creation, collaboration with people across the globe, data, technology, and entrepreneurial spirit were the key ingredients to creating Exhibitor Dashboard,” said Caroline. “Our customers have always been my passion and being recognized for leading the development of a product that can make a real difference for small and large exhibitors, helping them to improve their business, really makes me feel that all our hard work was worth it.”

“As a proud Latin American woman, achieving such important global recognition is proof that any woman can succeed here,” Caroline added. “As I consider the people to be the very best part of RX, I accept this recognition not only for myself but for all the amazing women I have the honor to work with.”

Jacy Barker, Senior Director of Marketing Services, USA

Jacy Barker is going places. But don’t just take our word for it! In August, Jacy was selected as one of US Trade Show Executive’s 2023 ‘Women to Watch’. TSE launched the ‘Women to Watch’ program in 2018 to help identify and encourage growth of the next generation of women leaders in the trade show industry. Jacy was selected for her leadership qualities, creativity, problem-solving skills, and high level of excellence in trade show management, and we couldn’t be prouder of her.

Jacy joined RX in 2012 as a marketing associate. Her current role is a unique blend of leadership and people management, while supporting the event marketing strategies with marketing services and process efficiencies.

“Supporting my team’s personal career development and growth is always a highlight for me – we have so many talented marketing professionals at RX, and it’s been an honor to support them along their journeys,” Jacy said. “I also love the challenge of navigating through new opportunities and roadblocks, and collaborating with different teams to deliver new services, technologies, and enhanced processes that benefit the B2B portfolio of events collectively. Being selected as a TSE ‘Woman to Watch’ has been such a rewarding experience; the recognition and support that I have received throughout this journey is very special to me. Celebrating this achievement in San Diego with the incredibly talented women who were also selected as Women to Watch was very empowering and makes me even more excited to see what is to come, for women especially, in our industry.”

Lanny Zhang, Senior Vice President, Greater China

As Senior Vice President of RX Greater China, Lanny Zhang is responsible for the management of our Retail, Manufacturing, Airport Construction and Flowers & Gardening event portfolios.

A native of Wuhan, Lanny graduated from Wuhan University and received her MBA from Nanyang Technological University at Singapore in 2003, having gained over twenty years’ experience in the events industry. Just two years after joining RX in 2003, Lanny was appointed Project Manager of one of Reed’s leading international travel event brands. In 2008, she took on our manufacturing portfolio where she continued to work her way up the corporate ladder.

Lanny has always been a bold and enthusiastic early adopter of new initiatives. She is also a caring and collaborative leader who is highly respected by her loyal team, and her colleagues in the wider business.

Reflecting on her success Lanny said: “Being a woman has never been an obstacle in my career at RX. What I enjoy most about working here is that we really care about bringing true value to our customers to help them build their businesses. We do that by constantly adapting to market changes with new solutions, never simply repeating, always trying new things.”

Anneke Baeten, Marketing Director, Australia

As our Marketing Director in Australia (leading Marketing, Digital and Creative), Anneke Baeten loves working with her teams, not just for their huge talent but also their willingness to bravely and enthusiastically embrace change.

“Change is seemingly the only constant at RXA which presents amazing opportunities” she explained. “I am constantly energised by our drive to deliver industry best practice and continued innovation. I love our outstanding digital achievements such as Emperia, our smart lead capture and qualifying tool. Our award-winning creative team has done amazing transformation work and the marketing team always develop gold standard, industry-award winning marketing campaigns with a strategic marketing focus. All of that with the customer and the business in mind. What’s not to love?!”

Anneke started in exhibitions on a six-month contract from academic publisher Elsevier, another division of RELX, and is still with us 7.5 years later. Embracing the spirit of innovation, and always eager to explore new solutions, her responsibilities and career opportunities quickly grew. “We shape our own future and career at RX; however, our leadership is also focused on talent development, and I have certainly been a beneficiary of that policy. I am never bored but I am (almost) always excited about what’s next!”

Liz Broughton, Global Head of Talent & Capability

Liz Broughton has been in her current role as RX Head of Talent & Capability for nearly two years. “When people ask me what I do, I’m proud to explain that I help lay foundations so that all RXers can learn, develop, progress and perform at their best  ̶  with them in the driving seat,” she explained. “I also feel blessed that both RX and RELX have supported me in doing the very same thing.”

Liz is a great believer in the power of mentoring to help our people enhance their knowledge, expand their networks, and grow their careers. “Anyone in RX can seek a mentor if they want one” she said. Earlier this year her team launched an exciting new talent initiative that is empowering RXers to take ownership of their own career development through honest, open year-round conversations with their managers. She is also proud to have been part of the Talent and Capability team, introducing Manager Core, a new learning experience for people managers which is currently being delivered RELX-wide across three continents, and growing fast.

From a personal perspective, Liz regards RX as one of the best career choices she has made. “As a mother, I’ve found this to be the most flexible and supportive company I’ve experienced, allowing me to reduce my hours, change my role and then when the timing was right, take a step up ,” she explained. “I’ve had fantastic managers and their support, enablement and encouragement has been everything I have needed to be here, in my favourite role so far.”

Nicole Mills, Senior Event Director, UK

As Senior Event Director of the Infosecurity Group no one day is the same for Nicole Mills. While she has clear deadlines for delivering Infosecurity Europe and Infosecurity Magazine she says the variety of every day provides her with continuous learning and enjoyment.

“My overarching responsibility is to understand our market and our customers’ needs, which in turn shapes my strategic thinking and daily planning. I work with many of our experts in marketing, operations, editorial, sales and tech to bring our events to life. I often describe my role as being a specialist in generalising, but with a clear focus on working with the teams to continuously evolve and deliver successful products.”

A wonderful example of this is the continued success of Women in Cybersecurity, which was introduced as an Infosecurity Magazine branded event within Infosecurity Europe in 2017.

“From the first year it was hugely popular with standing room only and each year the team have taken it to a new height,” said Nicole. “Having outgrown its current space on the show floor we are aiming in 2024 to bring a larger audience together to discuss the industry challenges across all diversity concerns.”
